A funeral service for Katherine Ann “Kay” Sturdivant, 92, was held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the United Presbyterian Church in Guernsey, Wyoming with Reverend Bill Walker officiating. Interment was held at the Prairie Rest Cemetery near Guernsey.
She passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland, Wyoming.
Kay was born October 3, 1924 in San Francisco, California the daughter of Judge and Katrina Ellsworth.
After high school graduation, Kay was an office clerk at IBM for many years. She met Arden Sturdivant while he was stationed in California while serving in the United States Navy. They were married on January 1, 1952 in California. They made their home in California before moving to Sunrise, Wyoming in 1967. She worked as a cook at Crazy Tony’s for 20-plus years.
Some of her hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing pool, bowling, golfing, and knitting. She loved to be with Arden and do whatever he was doing. After he passed away, she became very active in the Order of Eastern Star and served almost every office that she could. She was active in Eastern Star until she physically couldn’t do it anymore.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Esther) Sturdivant of Arizona, Sandra Olson, and Walter (Melodie) Sturdivant both of Wyoming; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arden Sturdivant on October 21, 1994; daughter, Debra Mutschler; and brother, Harvey Ellsworth.
Serving as pallbearers were Trevon Sturdivant, Kory Fleenor, Wesley Sturdivant, Christopher Sturdivant, Adam Otero, Paul Otero, and Chris Smith.
A memorial to the Guernsey Senior Center, P.O. Box 765, Guernsey, Wyoming 82214 would be appreciated by the family.
