GUERNSEY – It was announced officially two weeks ago, Guernsey-Sunrise 9-man football games were forfeited for the rest of the season in consideration of the safety of the team. The team suffered multiple injuries and other issues as it struggled to play the 9-man games early in the season. Last week, school officials posted information on the school’s live feed with the following information about the season, going forward.
“A huge thank you to our athletes, coaches, families, and athletic director for your patience, hard work, leadership, and efforts in working through solutions to navigate the remainder of our football season. While scheduling can be super challenging midseason, we have been able to solidify 6 man JV football games for the remainder of the season,” the post said.
Friday, Oct. 4 @ Cheyenne South 4 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 11 @ Douglas at 12 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 18 @ Lusk at 6 p.m.; Thursday, Oct 24 @ Cheyenne East 6 p.m.
While the remaining football games are all road games, fortunately other schools/districts were able to accommodate the midseason scheduling needs. Viking senior football players will be recognized and celebrated alongside senior volleyball players at their Oct. 17 home volleyball game. Players will be announced before the varsity game.
