GUERNSEY – The Vikings track team is fielding a large team this year in hopes of competing for a state tournament appearance. Although the team is large, it is young, and the youth had a learning experience at Morrill March 27.
Although many athletes competed well in the prelims, there were few who advanced to compete with the top qualifiers. As a team, the boys placed ninth with 14 points and were within eight points of taking sixth place for the meet.
“The team didn’t shine too brightly as it was a big meet with lots of strong Nebraska teams,” said discus athlete Caleb Christensen. “The boys varsity tied for ninth with Kimball and Southeast with 14 points. The girls did not have any points as a team. Only two athletes finished top 10 in their events. Justin Malcolm got second in High jump with a jump of five feet eight inches. Justin also got third in Triple Jump with a jump of 38 feet three inches.”
The only other athlete to finish top 10 was Christensen in the Shotput coming in at seventh with a throw of 36 feet three inches.
