Vikings bundle up for Pine Bluffs meet

PINE BLUFFS—Despite cold wind and cloudy skies, the Viking track teams made their way to Pine Bluffs Friday for the Kendra Roeder Invitational track meet. With several other activities on the calendar, it was a smaller group of competitors making the trip.

In the boys’ 100-meter dash, Taylor Sterner turned in the best time for the Vikes with a 12.57. Gabe Milton was just a breath behind, clocking a 12.59 and Jayden Wagner-Gross clocked a 12.72. Nathan Miller of Lusk won in a time of 12.09.

In the 200-meter dash, Milton and Sterner swapped spots. Milton ran a 25.92 and Sterner finished in 25.94. Korbin Weinkauf finished in 27.15. Shaw Martin of Burns won the event in 24.07.

Alex Geisler was the Vikings only entrant in the 800-meter run and took third with a time of 2:36.59. Thomas Reifschneider of Pine Bluffs won with a time of 2:20.07.

In the 1600-meter run, Phylip Morales place eighth with a time of 6:30.71. Geisler took ninth with a time of 6:42.85.  Kimball’s Braxton Miller finished in 5:21.75 to take first.

Kaiser Edwards ran a 13:40.98 in the 3200-meter run to finish fourth. Morales took fifth with a time 13:59.50.

Nate McGowan of Banner County claimed first with a time of 11:54.93.

The team of Milton, Sterner, Conner Bristow and Wagner-Gross placed fourth in the 4x100-meter relay, running a 48.43. First went to Burns with a time of 47.02.  

The team of Sterner, Weinkauf, Bristow and Geisler finished third in the Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 4:32.87. Burns won the event in 3:56.92.  

Edwards competed but did not record a height in the Pole Vault. Peter Russell of Kimball cleared 13-00 to win the event.

Bristow placed sixth in the Long Jump as he marked 16-03.5. Wagner-Gross cleared 15-05.0 to place eighth. Cory Bruegger of Lusk cleared 19-11.0 to win first.

Weinkauf marked 28-04.5 in the Triple Jump, the Vikings’ only entrant. Bruegger won that event as well with a distance of 43-04.0.

Overall, Burns won the boys’ team honors with 167 points, followed by Kimball (144), Pine Bluffs (77), Lusk (71), Encampment (56), Guernsey-Sunrise (37), Potter-Dix (34), Banner County (15) and Prairie View (12).

In the girls’ competition, the Lady Vikes had entries in just the field events. 

Brooke Sterner placed 18th with a mark of 22-10.5 in the Shot Put. Chloe Holbrook threw a 20-08.5 to finish in the 20th spot. Phoebe Albright of Lusk won with a distance of 33-02.5.

Sterner threw 60-05 in the Discus and Holbrook marked a 45-02. Pine Bluffs’ Jessica Hoffman finished first with a distance of 117-05.   

Holbrook marked 8-11.5 in the Long Jump.  Melody Zumbrunnen of Lusk took first with a mark of 16-03.

In the girls’ team scoring, Bruns placed first with 181.5 points, followed by Lusk (119), Kimball (96), Pine Bluffs (72.5), Encampment (27), Potter-Dix (17), and Banner County (3). The Vikings did not score high enough in any event to earn team points.
