Guernsey athletes earn all-conference honors

GUERNSEY – Three athletes from Guernsey-Sunrise High School have been chosen as all-conference from this year’s crop of talented track teams.

According to Coach Doug Horton, he had a talented team this year and had three student athletes who were picked as exemplary.

“Justin Malcom was a standout senior athlete. He competed in the PV, TJ, HJ and 4x1 at the state tournament. Justin placed in the TJ, JH, and 4x1 at state in very cold, rainy and windy conditions. He also competed in the Best in the West competition in Scottsbluff, placing 4th in the HJ. Justin can do just about anything in track and field including throwing the discus as well as running long distances. He would be an excellent decathlete if he decided to go that direction in college.

“Brock Honholt was another senior that was a mainstay in GSHS athletics. He competed in the LJ, HJ, TJ and 4x100 in Casper at the state championships. He placed in both the LJ and 4x100 scoring valuable points for the team. He long jumped, well over 19 feet which was a nice accomplishment, because he just started long jumping a couple of weeks ago. It was a toss-up between the 200M dash and competing in the LJ at state, so it was very fulfilling to place in the LJ.

“Juliana Schiele was all conference in the Pole Vault. She also was a state medalist, placing 8th. Coach Troy Reichert had her dialed in by the end of the season and she was placing regularly in meets. I am very excited to see her progress after several months in the weight room next year. Her potential is limitless. She will be one of the team leaders next year with the positivity she brings each day to practice.”
