PLATTE COUNTY — The Platte County Historical Society will host a talk by John Voight on Tuesday, February 27th at the Platte County Library. The free program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
John is a long-time member of the Platte County Historical Society and well known for his restoration and renovation efforts at the historic town of Sunrise, Wyoming. Sunrise was a company mining town of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Between John and the support group, Sunrise Historic and Prehistoric Preservation Society (SHAPPS), those efforts have not gone unnoticed locally, or on an international level. John’s talk, “What’s New in Sunrise…What’s Old in Sunrise” will shed light on all that is and has been happening, including student scholarship, archaeological digs that have attracted broad attention, collaboration with Eastern Wyoming Community College, oral history projects, public programs, and so much more.
If you have been to Sunrise, you’ll appreciate this program. If you have not yet visited the area this program will make you want to go!
