A new study by career platform Lensa has revealed the current landscape of the USA’s job market, showing the states in the US with the most job opportunities per person and the most in demand job roles
The study uses Lensa’s internal job search data from Jan-June 2021 to discover the demand for work in the US, analyzing many factors including the most job opportunities per 100,000 people, the most in-demand job roles, the industries hiring the most per state and the states with the most job seekers searching for work.

  • The sector that is advertising job roles across the most states is the transportation and material moving services industry, with them being the most advertised jobs in 40 states in the analysis.

  • The analysis showed us that a customer service representative is the most in-demand job role in 2021, with a more general customer service role also appearing in the top 10. With many customer-facing jobs being put on pause during the pandemic, the analysis shows that these types of businesses are returning to normality.

  • Alongside several administrative roles being in high demand, social work roles also feature, with registered nurse ranking sixth and nurse practitioner ranking twelfth for the 50 most in-demand jobs this year.
