Vikes get first win over Midwest at Lingle!

LINGLE—The Guernsey-Sunrise Viking boys got their first win of the year during the Lingle tournament last weekend. The Vikes snagged the victory over the Midwest Oilers after mounting a substantial fourth-quarter comeback. Down by 10 points entering the final quarter, the Vikes outscored the Oilers to get a 47-42 win. Complete stats for this game were not available at press time, but the Vikings were led by sophomore Brock Hohnholt’s 19-point performance. Sophomore Justin Malcom pitched in 13 points and junior Delgado added 10 points
The Vikes opened the tournament against St. Stephens on Friday afternoon and despite two players hitting double-doubles, St. Stephens prevailed 69-41. After playing a tight first quarter, St. Stephens went up by 12 to open the second half, 31-19. St. Stephens continued to drop in the points and went on to get the win.
Delgado finished with 18 points, 17 rebounds and a pair of steals. Hohnholt added 17 points and had 10 rebounds and five steals.
Senior Austin Albrecht put in three points and had five rebounds. Malcom pitched in two points and had two rebounds and three steals.
Freshman Rawland isabell hit a free-throw and had one rebound.

As a team, the Vikes hit 13 of 33 from two-point range and one of 10 from the arc. They made 12 of 32 free-throw attempts. They took down 38 rebunds (10 offensive) and committed 15 fouls and 25 turnovers.
The Eagles hit 21 of 47 from two-point range and seven of 24 from the arc. They sank six of 12 free-throws and took down 37 rebounds (13 offensive). They committed 24 fouls and 14 turnovers.
Friday evening, the Vikings took on Encampment but had far more than a roster of six is prepared to handle, falling 76-35.
Delgado hit 14 points and had four rebounds and five steals to lead the Vikings. Albrecht pitched in nine points and had a pair of rebounds and a steal. Hohnholt added seven points and grabbed five rebounds and a steal.
Malcom added five points and had four rebounds.
As a team, the Vikings hit 14 of 32 two-point range and one of nine from the arc. They made four of eight free-throws. They collected 18 rebounds (eight offensive) and committed 11 fouls and 22 turnovers.
Encampment shot 32 of 47 from two-point range and one of five from the three-point line. They hit nine of 13 free-throw attempts and gathered 25 rebounds (eight offensive). They committed eight fouls and 13 turnovers.
The Vikings will host Lusk tonight (Tuesday), their final game before the break for the holidays. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
