People from all over Platte County enjoyed Trunk or Treat

WHEATLAND – Goblins and T-Rexes, princesses and dragons, cowboys and cute animals. The variety of costuming for the annual Trunk or Treat celebration in Wheatland brought more people that has ever been seen at this event according to Platte County Main Street board member Dan Brecht.

“I’ve never seen anything like this one,” Brecht said. “This is more than we’ve ever had. I’m guessing maybe 500.”

The annual costume parade began to be organized in front of Frontier Furniture at 9:00 and the parade of parents and trick or treaters began the promenade through downtown streets of Historic Wheatland.

“We actually sent out invitations for the kids to the schools in Platte County School District No. 1, but the word of mouth was strong and we saw a lot of kids here from Guernsey as well,” Brecht said. “And it always helps when the weather is nice.”

It was a perfect morning for those in costume and their escorts with little wind, bright sunshine and temperatures close to 50 degrees.

Brecht said that the biggest challenge was to find time to put everything together with everything going on in his world right now, but he said that it worked out just fine.

“I just want to say thanks to all the Trunk or Treaters who came down,” Brecht said. “Chuck Brown was giving tractor rides through town as well as the participation by the police and sheriff departments and highway patrol in handing out candy and they even brought a drone which was a big hit for the kids. Also there were motorcyles here with their saddlebags packed with candy.”

According to Brecht, there were 29 downtown businesses participating as well as the library. The Platte County Main Street gave out 15 awards for best costumes including the best of show which Brecht thought was “Shrek.”
