The Guernsey-Sunrise girls' elementary traveling basketball team played host to teams from eastern Wyoming and western Nebraska Saturday for a day-long tournament, their first of the season.
Girls in grades four through six from Wheatland, Lingle, Torrington, Scottsbluff and Alliance joined Guernsey-Sunrise in a round-robin competition format.
Guernsey-Sunrise had just one team entered, made up of girls from the four age groups and coached by Maranda Bingham. Their first game was a tight one to the end, but the girls from Torrington's fifth-grade team slipped by with a 21-18 win.
With an extended break before their next game at the end of the day, the Vikings were able to get past the fifth-grade girls from Alliance by a 28-9 margin for their first win of the new season.
In the win over Alliance, the Vikes were led by Layla Noggle who put in 10 points. Hayeden Bingham added eight, Jordan Atwood dropped in seven and Alexia Atwood pitched in three to secure the Vike's win.
