Students get biggest win from golf tournament

GUERNSEY—The golfers won some cash and bragging rights for the next year, but 14 area students were the biggest winners as they received $7,600 in scholarship funds to use for their post high school education.
This year’s tournament marks the 29th year since the tournament was established to help with the high costs of pursuing a degree, something members of the Frederick family have supported for many years, some as teachers and board members in the local school system for many years. Students are encouraged to apply each year they attend the school of their choice and award amounts are increased in relation to how many years the student has attended classes.
This year’s recipients include: Alexis Elmore ($700-University of Wyoming); Jasmine Castellaw ($700-UW); Katrina Christensen ($700-Chadron State College); TyLinn Cooper ($700-Eastern Wyoming College); William Baker ($600-UW); Afton Kelley ($600-Western Nebraska College); Emmett Dawson ($500-EWC); Caleb Christensen ($500-CSC); Kolten Weinkauf ($500-WNC); Libby Logan ($500-Nebraska Wesleyan University); Chloe Holbrook ($400-EWC); Jack Baker ($400-Laramie County Community College); Shelbie Bowen ($400-Casper College); Berkleigh Pafford ($400-Casper College)
Donations made directly to the scholarship fund were made by First State Bank, Frederick Golf Tournament, Torrington Disposal Service, Tony Gamble Memorial, Ben’s Bar and Grill, Tim and Sharon Newton, Tom and JoLynn Davis, Scott and Tesha Frederick, Ron and Marian Gilson, Wyoming Pulmonary at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center-Dr. Rage Geringer, Disco and Edie Harris, Marty and Debbie Martinez, Luke Eddington, Marc Martinez, Bret Moniz Mini Storage, and Jerry Pabst.
Sixty-seven three-person teams, a total of 201 players, entered this year’s tournament, held at Guernsey’s Trail Ruts Golf Course. Players were divided into seven flights that each played for their respective portion of the prize pool and the Calcutta.
Trent Engle, Lauren Stovall and Slade Roberson took the top honors as they won 2 and first place overall, shooting 14 under par.
The team of Joe Holtzclaw, Mike Wilhelm and Richard Redding and the team of Tracy Richardson, Brett Moniz and Jade Envoldson both shot 13 under par putting them in a tie for second and third overall and the top two places in Flight AA.
The team of Josh Graham, Bruce Hellbaum and Mackenzie Graham shot 12 under par to take third place in Flight AA and tied with Brett Ruiz, Matt Mindieta and Annie Ruiz for fourth place overall. Ruiz, Mindieta and Ruiz placed first in Flight B.

The teams of Jeremy Deitchman, Robert Deitchman and Dan Sisson and Dustin Rothe, Derrel Vaughn and Dennis Gerke shot 10 under par to tie for second and third places in Flight A. Second place winners were Trevor Douglas, Michael Thompson and Jay Johnson, shooting nine under par.
Flight B third place went to Jesse Nichols, Buzz Oliver and Travis Gaukel at eight under par.
Flight C honors went to Keagan Dollard, Cody Burfeind and John Burfeind at nine under par.
Je’Ney Jackson, Matt Martinez and Gerry Crumbliss placed second at eight under par.
Cody Heimsoth, Joel McKee and Rob Jones were six under par to take third place.
Jared Marker, Calvin Crumbliss and Garu Marker placed fourth at four under par.
Flight D, first place went to the team of Dave Berg, Mike Pettigrew and Pat Russel, shooting eight under par.
Second place went to Kaitlyn Bristow, Nigel Bristow and Cory Bristow at six under par.
The teams of Nick Paustian, Allison Gapter and Khayla Otero and Mike King, Abe Moreno and Tasha Morena tied for third and fourth, both teams shooting five under par.
Flight E honors ended in a tie between the teams of Marc Martinez, Kacey Otero and Khayla Otero and Jeff McDaniel, Tom McDaniel and Rob McDaniel at seven under par.
Third and fourth places were shared by teams of Caden Davis, Jenny Davis and Amy Bates and Marty McKinney, Mark Parvin and Dylan Milam who both shot four under par.
Flight F top honors went to Bryce Parvin, David Tangeman and Scott Othan at four under par. Second place went to Daniel Rodriguez, Julian Rodriguez and Jamie Rodriguez at three under par.
The team of Jeff Johnson, Jared Saukkoula and Kara Saukkoula placed third shooting even par.
Fourth place went to the team of Kellie Augustyn, Khery Otero and Khrysie Snyder who shot two over par.
