Students choose electives at ‘course fair’

GUERNSEY – “You get to figure out what you want for classes next year,” principal Liesl Sisson told next year’s high schoolers at Guernsey-Sunrise School’s course fair last week.

“You put in what you want in the order you want. After these sheets are turned in, then we will build the master courses,” Sisson said.

The course fair is a way for school administrators to create a schedule that interests the students, and prevents students from missing out on their favorite courses because of scheduling conflicts. Students do have core classes they are required to take, but the course fair gives students an opportunity to visit with teachers and decide what classes, clubs, or internships they may be interested in pursuing.

Tables were set up for computer sciences and robotics, geology, earth/space science, physical education and conditioning, math and life sciences, business education, yearbook, publishing, family and consumer science, art, drama, choir, band, CAD / Trades, woods, welding, social studies, and of course, a popular item that includes internships: applied business entrepreneurship.

The most popular programs will be added to the school curriculum for the 2024-25 school year.
