Boats again able to launch at Guernsey Reservoir this week

GUERNSEY – Water levels are just now returning to more normal levels after the annual silt run began on July 8. During the silt run, water in reservoirs along the North Platte River is released in greater quantities than throughout the rest of the summer, both mimicking historic river flows, and providing silt-laden water to act as a form of sealant to down-stream irrigation canals for districts under contract with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
The lower water levels over the last two weeks have prevented use of the main boat ramps, though kayaks, paddleboards, etc. can access the water with a short walk at Sandy Boat Dock, according to a release by Guernsey State Park. The water began refilling late last week and water levels should be high enough for boats to launch sometime this week. See the Guernsey State Park Facebook page or call 307-836-2334 for information on the useability of the docks.
