WHEATLAND — Thanks to the efforts of members of All Saints Episcopal Church in Wheatland, Platte ParaTransit recently received a generous donation from the Foundation for the Episcopal Church in Wyoming.

PLATTE COUNTY — The Platte County Historical Society will host a talk by John Voight on Tuesday, February 27th at the Platte County Library. The free program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

WHEATLAND – There’s good news for individuals who worked as a laborer in any ag-related field from January 20, 2020 through May 11, 2023. A $600 gift card is being offered to offer relief to people who worked in agriculture during the pandemic.

WHEATLAND – The University of Wyoming Extension will offer six private pesticide applicator education programs at various locations in southeast Wyoming Feb. 6 through March 6.

WHEATLAND — In the name of conservation, climate change, population control, and alternate energy sources, the livelihood and very fabric of ag and ranch communities are at stake, according to Jerry Cundall, lifelong rancher, Platte County resident, and chairman of the Platte County Republican Party.

WHEATLAND — Icy chills held Platte County captive for a few days last week and kept maintenance crews busy, and not just from staying on top of snow accumulation. A broken generator did not provide power during an outage, the furnace failed in the jail for some hours, and a motion sensor interpreted blowing snow as smoke, triggering an alarm alerting the fire department.

PLATTE COUNTY — After nearly two years of silence, a team representing Black Hills Energy addressed the Platte County Commissioners last week. The commission had reached out to Black Hills Energy 18 months prior with no response, and reached out yet again at the end of 2023 requesting an audience with the organization that has plans to build transmission lines that would march 70 miles across Platte County.

WHEATLAND — Congresswoman Harriet Hageman visited the bi-weekly Platte County Commissioner’s meeting on Tuesday after a long absence from Wyoming, commenting she had not visited the state since January 2023.

WHEATLAND — Christmas lights twinkled around a huge buffet table as 4H community members and their families contributed a feast to a holiday potluck, followed by square dancing called by the inimitable Jarvis Windom.

PLATTE COUNTY – Rural residents in Platte County, as well as residents of Chugwater, will see an increase in electric utility bills through the Wheatland Rural Electric Association (WREA).

PLATTE COUNTY — Newly appointed Road & Bridge department head Chris Bookout is going 9-0 and his crew is right there with him. In the past 30 days the Road & Bridge crew have accomplished a sizable list of projects; mainly in preparation for what we all know can be difficult winter conditions.
