“We Care” program alive and well and pushing ahead in Guernsey

Posted

GUERNSEY – Although there have been some minor changes in the logistics of the “We Care” program, the program itself is going strong and continues to ask for your support in turning in your receipts from the local grocer, Lynn’s Superfoods.

The Guernsey Community Food Pantry is continuing to benefit from the program being offered by Lynn’s Superfoods. The Guernsey store will continue to donate $100 for every $10,000 worth of receipts that are turned in. The program was set up by the company.

They’ve been doing it in South Dakota for a while and they finally brought it to the Wyoming stores. The first check to the food pantry was given Oct. 14, 2021 in a special presentation at Lynn’s Superfoods where a check was given to the Guernsey Community Food Pantry’s board member Joe Michaels for $400. That represented $40,000 in receipts that were saved and put into the “We Care” program containers. Containers that used to be at the checkouts at Superfoods have now moved into the community and the food pantry is asking that you continue to save your receipts and drop them off at various locations around Guernsey.

“It’s going to be a big plus to the folks in, not just Guernsey, but the greater Guernsey community,” Michaels said. “It’s an opportunity for us to come up with some additional monies. It’s always hard to be able to know what your income is going to be compared to your outgoing. Lynn’s Superfoods is definitely part of our community. It’s simple. Buy your groceries here, leave your receipt; it’s a great plus for the community.”

According to the Guernsey Food Pantry’s president, Pat Russell, “The ‘We Care’ program offered by the local grocery stores corporation has benefitted the pantry for the past year alone with $11,000 given back to support our operations. We are grateful for this program and appreciate the opportunity to participate.”

Recently the corporate office has indicated that the receipt baskets can no longer be set up as collection points for receipts within the store, but it doesn’t mean that the program in any way is in jeopardy.

“The pantry board, pantry volunteers and myself have approached other businesses and locations in Guernsey to collect these receipts,” Russell said. “The grocery store has put up flyers at the store with the locations where you can deposit your receipts.”

Currently the collection continues as per usual at the following locations: Banner Capital Bank, First State Bank, Kelly’s Bar, the Senior Center, the Libray, Faith Fellowship, the Presbyterian Church, the Catholic Church, Town Hall and the Guernsey Food Pantry.

“Please take your grocery store receipts from Lynn’s Superfoods when you shop and place them in one of the many containers we have set up at the above locations,” Russell said. “The amount we get for the pantry is the same as it’s always been. For every $10,000 the pantry collects on these receipts, we receive $100. This is a wonderful program where everyone can help fight hunger in our own community by just depositing your receipt. This costs the community nothing, but helps with everything for the food pantry. Please continue to support this service in Guernsey by placing your grocery store receipts in one of these containers at the locations listed. Don’t let the store throw them out.”

Thanks to Lynn’s Superfoods and the community for all the local support and commitment to this service.
