GUERNSEY—The weather wasn’t a whole lot better than when the games were originally postponed, but the Vikings were able to travel for the games at Hanna on Monday, February 5th.  Unfortunately, the outcomes weren’t the ones hoped for.

Hanna-Elk Mountain overran the Viking boys 60-27 and the Viking girls also came up short by a 41-26 margin to the Lady Miners.

Limited stats were available for the girls’ game.  Junior guard Blake Rose and junior forward Whitney Martin each hit double figures with 10 apiece.  Senior guard  Lakin Reichert and junior forward Trinity Ayers each had three points.  They hit seen of 22 free-throw attempts.

The boys spread their scoring among six players.  Senior forward Dale Mote put in six points and had 12 rebounds, an assist and a steal.  Sophomore guard Alex Delgado and senior forward Garret Oneyear each had five points.  Oneyear also had eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.  Delgado finished with two rebounds and a shot block.

Junior forward Austin Albrecht and freshman forward Brock Hohnholt each had four points.  Albrecht took down four rebounds and had two steals; Hohnholt had two assists and two steals.

Sophomore Ryan Harms had three points, six rebounds, an assist and two steals.

As a team, the Vikes hit 11 of 39 two-point shots and made just one of 11 three-point attempts.  They made two of 16 from the stripe, took down 36 rebounds and had seven assists and 10 steals.  They committed 34 turnovers and 23 fouls.

The loss takes the boys’ season record to 1-15.  The games scheduled for last Friday with Sioux County at Harrison, NE was cancelled due to weather.  Those games will not be rescheduled as Nebraska has already started their post-season district playoffs.

This Friday, the Vikes will play their final home games when they host Hanna-Elk Mountain in a pair of varsity-only contests.  Senior players will be honored and include Whitney Barnes, Dale Mote, Garret Oneyear, Lakin Reichert and Tate Stoneking.

The girls will tip off at 3 p.m. followed by the boys at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the Vikes make one more road trip to finish the regular season schedule at Rock River.  The girls will tip off at noon and the boys will play after at 1:30 p.m.

The 1-A Regional Tournament will be played at Douglas High School Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  The brackets will be seeded once this weekend’s games are completed and will be available on the WHSAA website at:  http://www.whsaa.org   Go to State Events, Regional Tournaments where you will find 1-A Girls and 1-A Boys. The top four teams in those two brackets will move on to the 1-A State Basketball Tournament in Casper March 1-3.  Those brackets will also be available on the website following the completion of the regional competition.
