Viking girls claim third place in Glenrock Invitational

GLENROCK--You don’t have to win every event to finish well overall in a track meet and the Lady Vikings gave a clear demonstration of how that works this past weekend in Glenrock.
The Viking girls claimed a third place finish out of 10 teams at Saturday’s Finch-Lehner Invitational in Glenrock, rolling up 65 team points.
Viking junior sprinter Elana Heer had one of her best days of the season as she picked up first place in the 100 and 400 Meter Dashes and finished second in the 200 Meter Dash.
Heer won the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.72 and clocked a 1:04.75 to get the gold in the 400.
Freshman teammate Blake Rose finished sixth in the 100 with a time of 14.59 and seventh in the 200, finishing in 30.12. Rachel Battershell of Wheatland won the 200 with a time of 27.11.
Sophomore Whitney Martin took second place in the 400, hitting the line at 1:07.62.
The Lady Vikes earned additional points with multiple top-eight finishes in the Long Jump and Triple Jump. Martin marked 14-02.50 and Heer hit 13-09.00 to take fourth and sixth places in the Long Jump. Kirsten Gourley of Little Snake River hit 16-03 to win the Long Jump. Martin also took fourth in the Triple Jump with a 29-01.50 and freshman Sierra Ballou took sixth, marking 28-06.25. Miranda Gilkey from Lusk won the Triple Jump with a mark of 33-02-00.
Sophomore Bailey Martin picked up Guernsey’s additional team points with a second place finish in the Shot Put, marking 32-06.50. Mikalah Jones of Glenrock won the Shot Put with a mark of 32-06.50.

In the boys competition, the Vikings got their highest individual finish from sophomore Austin Albrecht who took fourth in the 200 Meter Dash, clocking a 24.09. Sixth place went to Dylan Rose with a time of 24.41. First went to Roman Smith of Wheatland who clocked a 22.99.
Rose also placed seventh in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 12.16. Roman Smith of Wheatland took first in 11.47.
The Vikings’ other individual points came from Garret Oneyear’s fifth place finish in the 110 Meter Hurdles in a time of 19.45. First went to Zac Pickinpaugh of Shoshoni who clocked a 16.68.
The 4x100 Meter Relay team of Austin Albrecht, Roy Mote, Dylan Rose and Garret Oneyear took fifth with a time of 47.79. Glenrock placed first in a time of 45.91.

The prestigious Best of the West meet in Scottsbluff will be held Tuesday, April 25 at Bulldog Stadium. Top performers from eastern Wyoming and western Nebraska will compete in this invitation-only meet. Events begin at 4 p.m.
