GUERNSEY--The Viking boys’ basketball team hasn’t had a roster this size since...well, maybe ever. With just six players out this season, it’s been a tough road for the Vikes, having managed just one win to date over Midwest in the Lingle tourney before Christmas. But the six that are out are young, committed and are working hard to make it more about learning and working together in the hopes that they’ll be able to improve and gain some skills for the next year or two to come.
The Vikes lost against Sioux County on January 7th but it was darn close, 47-43. Alex Delgado led the Vikes with 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
Justin Malcom pitched in 11 points and had three rebounds, three assists, a pair of steals and a pair of blocked shots. Brock Hohnholt had six points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.
The Vikes hit 14 of 36 from two-point range and four of 14 treys. They sank three of seven free-throws and grabbed 23 rebounds (seven offensive). They committed 14 turnovers and 18 rebounds.
Last Thursday, the Vikes made a trip into Big Red Country, taking on Crawford. Crawford held the Vikes to 35 points and slipped away with the win 49-35.
