GUERNSEY--The Viking high school basketall teams began practice for the 2017-2018 season Monday, hoping to post some larger numbers in the win column.
The Viking boys have one of the smaller teams Guernsey-Sunrise has had with just nine players. Their roster includes seniors Dale Mote, Garret Oneyear and Tate Stoneking; junior Austin Albrecht; sophomores Alex Delgado, Ryan Harms and Xavier Smith; and freshmen Brock Hohnhot and Justin Malcom.
Returning for second-year Head Coach Nate Reinhardt will be forward Garret Oneyear (6-0), junior forward Austin Albrecht (6-0) and 5-10 guard Alex Delgado. Dale Mote, a 6-1 forward also lettered last year.
The Vikings will be looking to improve on last year’s 4-18 record. Reinhardt continues to push his players to get better in all aspects of the game. “We improved over the length of the season last year and we just need to continue to increase our shooting percentage and stronger defensive stops. We will continue to push the ball and create some fun and exciting basketball.”
Serving as assistant coach will be Sonny Beck. Managers include Macy Mote and Victoria Sierra.
The Vikings open their season on Saturday, December 9 at Minatare. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
