Tough week for Guernsey-Sunrise track teams

WYOMING – The Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings finished 12th place at Torrington’s Wiseman Invite held Friday, May 7, at Torrington’s Wiseman Field. The Lady Vikings failed to score any points at the meet. 

Senior Brock Honholt finished ninth with a time of 24 minutes, 43 seconds in the 200-meter. 

The 4x800 team of Brody Harriman, Cooper Harriman, Domonic Ramirez and Aidan Noggle finished fourth with a time of 11 minutes, 46.96 seconds, while the 4x100 team of Honholt, Kaleb Foggie, Dawson Bingham and Justin Malcom finished seventh with a time of 47.84.

The Sprint Medley Relay team of Dawson Bingham, Brian McCoid, C. Harriman and Noggle finished eighth with a time of 4:47.85. Bingham and McCoid ran the 200-meet sprint while Harriman ran the 400-meter portion and Noggle ran the 800-meter portion.

The Vikings finished fourth at the Pine Bluffs Field Event Extravaganza in Pine Bluffs on Thursday, May 6, while the Lady Vikings didn’t place, again.

“It was good meet for us,” Viking coach Doug Horton said. “It allowed athletes to just focus on their individual field events.”

Sophomore Caleb Christensen finished ninth in shot put with a distance of 35 feet, 0.5 inches. Senior Justin Malcom finished fourth in discus with a distance of 110-8, while Christensen took ninth with a distance of 96 feet, 9 inches. Both Malcom and Christensen accomplished personal bests with their distances thrown. 

Honholt and Malcom finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in high jump with Honholt breaking 5-7 and Malcom clearing 5-5. 

Malcom and C. Harriman finished third and seventh, respectively, in pole vault with Malcom clearing 10 feet Harriman clearing 7 feet. Malcom will be competing in pole vault as part of his four events at regionals, according to coach Horton.

Brock Honholt took third in long jump with a distance of 19 feet 3.5 inches, while Tristan Honholt took ninth with a distance of 15-6, establishing a personal record for both competitors. 

Bock Honholt finished first in triple jump with a distance of 39-7.5 and Brian McCoid took fifth with a distance of 35-10.5. 

Lady Viking Juliana Schiele took seventh in pole vault with a height of 7 feet, establishing a personal best. 

Freshman Rylie Thompson took seventh in the long jump with a personal best 12-4.5. 

Freshman Lily Ahrens established a personal best 26-foot triple jump, taking eighth place in the event. 

The 1A, 2A and 3A East Regional Track Meet will be held in Torrington at Wiseman Field beginning Friday, May 14. Events begin at 9:30 a.m.
