GUERNSEY – The Guernsey Economic & Tourism Development group put together a full day of activities and brought smiles to the faces of the many locals and tourists who showed up for the festivities at the annual Duck Daze celebration Aug. 21.
It is a celebration of community and really signifies that last great party of the year before the kids have to return to the classroom.
The day started out bright and chilly and more resembled a morning in October than late August. Runners gathered at Heimbuck Park and as the starting call was given for the Duck Daze 5K, the temperature was just inching toward 47 degrees.
The morning gave runners great running temperatures and a faster pace caused most of the runners to come in at under 30 minutes. Sully Wilson was the overall winner as he came in with an 18.25 time. Joe Wilson was second, coming in at 18.25.25 completing the photo finish for the father/son duo. Ann Marie Wilson came in first place for the women at a time of 19:13 followed by Gabby Foggie who finished second for the women at 26:47. There were eight runners who braved the cooler temps and went on to complete the race.
