Memorial services for Aurelio “Larry” N. Lara, 92, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Father Ray Moss officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Larry died October 8, 2017 at Community Hospital and cremation has taken place. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at the church.
Larry was born October 17, 1924 in Omaha, NE, the son of Aurelio and Trinidad (Navarro) Lara. He grew up in the Huntley, Wyoming area and attended school there. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. After his discharge, he returned to Huntley. He married Susan Lopez on April 23, 1948 in Morrill, Nebraska. He farmed for a short time before starting work at the Sunrise Iron Ore Mine. They moved to Sunrise, Wyoming and in 1970 they moved to Hartville, Wyoming. He retired when the mine shut down in 1980.
Larry then worked part time for the Guernsey School district and later retired from there and moved to Torrington, Wyoming. 
Larry enjoyed fishing, reading western novels, and watching western movies. He was a member of the VFW, the Foreign Legion, the Union at the mine and was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church where he was very involved. He also coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. 
Larry is survived by his wife Susan Lara of Torrington, Wyoming; daughter Linda (James) Mitchell of Sioux City, Iowa; sons Michael (Florence) Lara of St. Louis, MO, Richard (Holly) Lara and Robert Lara of Torrington; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters Jess Lara, Lupe Clay, Rebecca Rodriguez, Ameliano Lara, Jesus Lara and two others.
