GUERNSEY – Norman Ellis “Norm” Sturdivant, 80, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland, surrounded by his family.

Norm Sturdivant was born on Saturday, Nov. 11, 1939, in Torrington, the son of Charles and Violet (Richardson) Sturdivant.

Norm was reared and educated in Sunrise. Norm joined the United States Navy and served his country for three years. When he was honorably discharged from the service, he went to work with his brother Artie at his body service shop before he returned to Guernsey to work at the Sunrise Mine and then worked construction. He did various other occupations through his working career before he retired.

Some of his hobbies included fishing, hunting, and telling stories which were very witty and had his ornery twist to it. Norm loved to gamble and was very lucky at it. He won over 197 jackpots. Norm had a heart of gold and was very giving to anybody that crossed his path. He would do without to help someone that was having troubles.

Norm married Sharon Owens in June 1972 and they were married for 33 years before Sharon passed away.

Norm is survived by his sons, Ardie (Kathi) Sturdivant of Phoenix, Ariz., Gary (Marcy) Owens, Brian Sturdivant, both of Gillette, and Alan Sturdivant of Guernsey; grandchildren, Lacey Sturdivant, Hanna Sturdivant, Tiffany Roesner, Chelsea Hoekstra, Christopher Owens, Shalayna Hoekstra, Keelie Garvin, Zoey Prusik, Emma Sturdivant, Brody Sturdivant, Jasmine Sturdivant, Michael Sturdivant and Alex Sturdivant; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Linda Dunn and Bruce Sturdivant.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon Sturdivant; siblings, Loren Sturdivant, Artie Sturdivant, Korin Fronapfel and Joe Sturdivant.

A celebration of life will be held this summer.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
