GUERNSEY – Dollar General stores located in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, are in the process of adding new stores to Wyoming including Guernsey, Wheatland, Douglas and Lander.

Construction is already underway in Guernsey as FITI Construction Co has been tearing up the existing slab and will be demolishing the existing structure that was last owned by Paul Goekee who owned a True Value Hardware store at that location. Goekee owned his store for over 30 years and in addition to selling hardware and lumber, it was also a NAPA Auto parts store for a time.

According to Town of Guernsey Planner Chuck Porter, the site was purchased and Porter was contacted by Alan Cortez who is an engineer for Inberg-Miller Engineers in Riverton, Wyoming, making an initial inquiry. On Nov. 22, 2022, Dollar General USA Inc. purchased the property and the information was sent to Guernsey Planning and Zoning.

At the first council meeting in December the council voted to approve the new business. Construction began last Monday on the site and within a week, the demolition was nearly complete. A new shell will be put up and according to Porter, the contractor said it would take between 45 and 60 days to have the project finished.

As soon as the project is complete it will most likely be another month before the store receives its inventory, does the training and has the doors ready to open. The store will be located at 600 W. Whalen Street and the building will sit perpendicular to the road.

The construction company employed by Dollar General will travel to Wheatland for the demolition of their next site which will be the West Winds Motel that sits directly behind the Maverick Station. The address of the new Dollar General in Wheatland will be 1756 South Street.
