Mother’s Day Tea brings out full house to Guernsey

GUERNSEY – A special Mother’s Day Tea was prepared for Guernsey area seniors who were over 60 years of age.

The tea was hosted by the Guernsey Services for Seniors (GSFS) group and was held at the GSFS gathering hall in Guernsey. Special bone china cups and saucers were glued together ahead of time to create beautiful bird feeders and each feeder came with a bag of bird seed.

The tea was a potluck, and the tables were filled with various sandwiches, salads, desserts and also featured iced tea and lemonade; everything perfect for a proper Mother’s Day tea.

The day was planned with many giveaway door prizes and also featured the music of Guernsey Gazette journalist Mark DeLap who provided ninety-minutes of musical entertainment for the mothers.

A special surprise was delivered by way of a song that DeLap had written from a poem that he received from Barb Costopoulos. He revealed the creation to her during the midst of the tea and it brought tears to her eyes as she realized it was her poem set to music. She mentioned with a loving laugh, “I see, Mark that you are not to be trusted.”

There were prizes given away for the oldest mother, the grandmother with the most grandchildren and the most children among other categories. The soiree lasted from 2-4 p.m. and was a welcome gathering as last year’s plans were canceled by COVID.
