Martin takes state championship in 1-A Shot Put!

CASPER—The Guernsey-Sunrise Viking track teams sent 15 competitors to the state track meet and 13 came home with at least one medal each. Awards and points are given through eight places in each event.
Bailey Martin brought home the state championship in Class 1-A Girls Shot Put, marking 36-04.5. She was also named to the All-State team.
Also competing in the Shot Put, Trinity Ayers took eighth place, hitting 32-08 and Macy Mote finished 12th with a toss of 29-06.
Martin also picked up points in the Discus as she finished fifth with a throw of 97-08. Macy Mote finished right behind in sixth place, marking 96-07. Trinity Ayers finished in the 15th spot with a mark of 72-07. Katrina Christensen also competed but did not mark.
In the Triple Jump, Jordan Sasso marked 30-03.25, finishing in 11th place. Destiny Covington competed but did not get a mark.
In the girls’ running events, Whitney Martin finished fifth in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.82. She finished fourth in the 200 Meter Dash, clocking 28.42.
The Viking girls picked up their other team points in the 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of 1:02.15, good enough for seventh place, and took eighth place in the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 5:05.61. Running in the 4x100 were Sierra Ballou, Destiny Covington, Whitney Martin and Jordan Sasso. The SMR team consisted of Trinity Ayers, Whitney Martin, McKenzie Romero and Jordan Sasso.

Misty Morales finished in 13th place in the 400 Meter prelims, not quite high enough to make the finals.
McKenzie Romero finished ninth in the 1600 Meter Run, clocking 6:17.61 and 10th in the 3200 Meter Run with a time of 14:12.40.
The Lady Vikings finished in 10th place out of 19 as a team, scoring 28 points. Cokeville claimed the championship with 173.5 points.
In the boys’ competition, Brock Hohnholt had the highest individual finish in an event, claiming fourth place in the High Jump after clearing 5-04.
Justin Malcom finished seventh in the Triple Jump with a mark of 39-02.5. Brock Hohnholt finished 15th at 36-06.
The 4x100 Meter Relay team of Brock Hohnholt, Justin Malcom, Justin Martinez and Austin Albrecht placed fourth in 48.29.
The Viking boys picked up their remaining points as the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay team of Brandon Miller, Austin Albrecht, Justin Martinez and Brock Hohnholt finished eighth in a time of 4:29.74.
In the remaining running events, Austin Albrecht competed in the 100 Meter Dash but did not make the finals.
Brandon Miller finished 13th in the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 5:35.18. and 10th in the 3200 Meter Run, clocking 11:26.71.
Justin Malcom competed in the High Jump and the Pole Vault but did not mark.
As a team, the boys finished with eight points and in 17th place of 19 teams.
All Conference selections will be published next week. Nate Reinhardt was named 1-A East Conference Coach of the Year.
