Local VFW Post and Auxiliary team with local organizations

GUERNSEY – Christmas will be a bit brighter this year for some needy county residents as the local VFW Post 4471 and the VFW 4471 Auxiliary are teaming up with the Hub City Motorcycle Club and the Guernsey Lions Club, according to Don Mack from VFW Post 4471.

The statement below is the VFW grant application to the VFW Foundation for $1,000, which the local VFW was granted. The Lake Guernsey VFW Post 4471 Auxiliary donated $500 for this same cause, according to Mack

“Lake Guernsey VFW Post 4471 is applying for $1,000 to work with the Hub City Motorcycle Club and the Guernsey Lions Club to create Christmas baskets containing food (80%) and toys (20%), purchased locally, for needy county residents. The VFW and other local groups, who assess community requirements and provide assistance, are concerned that families in need of basic essentials are without the financial resources to take care of themselves. Many community residents, who were formerly employed in energy related industries, have been laid off with few resources in reserve. This grant will enhance the community’s efforts to provide food for families and toys for children during the Holiday Season and help to relieve the enormous impact on over-taxed community food banks and thrift stores. This year the number of families and severity of need appears to be far greater than we’ve seen previously due to recent mine closures and COVID-19.”
