Lady Vikings face fierce competition

Posted

GUERNSEY – With five varsity players unable to suit up for various reasons last Saturday afternoon, head coach Curtis Cook got a chance to get a good look at some of his reserves, who usually get very little playing time.

Hulett also used the game as an opportunity to give their reserves some experience for down the stretch and were utilizing different looks with different combinations.

Guernsey, playing with only six varsity girls, reacted well and the reserves stepped up to mesh well with the veterans to make it an enjoyable game to watch.

In the first quarter, Guernsey-Sunrise was only able to come up with two points while holding Hulett to eight points. By halftime, the score had grown to 24-7. After the half, the Lady Vikings came out with a renewed energy and matched Hulett point for point.

The final score ended up 35-18 with Rylie Thompson going on a nice run, scoring six of her 10 points in that quarter. She ended up as the leading scorer for the Lady Bulldogs. Layla Noggle ended up with five points. Liberty Whitebird had two points and Alyssa Nyquist added one point.

Nyquist, who usually plays only in a reserve role, stepped up and was an asset both on offense and by playing tenacious defense.

The Lady Vikings had three games last week, also losing to Crawford, Nebraska, 57-12 Thursday night and last Monday, lost to the Lady Bulldogs C team from Wheatland, 48-10.

The girls will face Lingle-Fort Laramie Friday night for a 5 p.m. game.
