WHEATLAND – “Thud, swish and cheer.”
A monthly recipe that has been going on at Rafter MB Quarter Horses Arena and Event Center and Arena BBQ.
It’s the sound of the Kiwanis cornhole tournament that is sponsored each month to help raise money for local Platte County youth. Jan. 20 was the third tournament held to help raise funds and was called a “blind draw.”
Since November, the Kiwanis has been sponsoring cornhole tournaments and to date, the group has raised over $1,500.
The Saturday events are held in the dimly lit horse arena in western Wheatland. The day begins at 8 a.m. and concludes in the early or late afternoon, depending upon how many teams have signed up for the monthly event.
“Today, we had a blind draw,” said Gwen Seidel, Kiwanis committee member. “Each month we do different things, and this month to ensure that the same teams didn’t win every time, there was a blind draw before the day started where you were partnered with someone you didn’t know.”
The next event will be Feb. 20 at Rafter MB.
The participants each vie for cash prizes, with $100 going to the first-place team, $75 going to the second-place team and a $50 certificate from Hilltop for the third-place team.
