Junior high boys’ A team holds undefeated status

LINGLE—The Guernsey-Sunrise junior high boys had a full week of competition with games at Lingle-Fort Laramie, Rock River and Hanna-Elk Mountain. The Vikings’ A team is currently undefeated in five contests and dominating most of their opponents. The Vikings’B team is still seeking their first win, standing at 0-4.
At Lingle, the A team picked up a 50-37 win and the B team came up on the short end of a 37-12 score.
In the A game, the little Vikes put three players in double figures. Brian McCoid and Bryce Stenson each finished with 15 points and Tristan Hohnholt added 13 points, including three treys. Dawson Bingham pitched in five points and Alex Waring hit a pair of free-throws.
The Vikings’ B team had their hands full of a tough Dogger defense that kept the Vikes from scoring. James Jenkins had five points, Kolten Weinkauf, Nathan VanNatter and Aiden Noggle each had two points and Julian Rodriguez added a free-throw.
At Rock River, the boys played one game against the Longhorns, then split to the A and B teams for the games against H-EM.

McCoid led the A team in a 42-22 win over Rock River as he cashed in 22 points, his best of the season to date. Stenson added nine points, Hohnholt chipped in six and Bingham hit for five.
In the A team’s game with Hanna-Elk Mountain, McCoid canned 21 points, 14 of them in the first quarter to lead the Nikes to a 47-24 win over the Miners. Stenson and Hohnholt each added eight, Bingham put in six, Alex Waring and Alex Sturdivant each had a bucket.
The B team had a bigger challenge and bowed to the Miners’ B team 40-10.
Weinkauf was the top Viking scorer with six points. Noggle and Jenkins each added two.
On Monday, the Vikings played host to the Wheatland seventh and eighth grade B teams.
The B team worked hard but were outgunned 38-12. Weinkauf had six points, Rodriguez hit a bucket and a free-throw for three points, Noggle had two points and Sturdivant hit a free-throw.
In the A team game, the Vikes put three players in double figures. McCoid had another strong game with 18 points. Hohnholt pitched in 11 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and Bingham put in 10. Stenson added four points, Noggle, Weinkauf and Sturdivant each had two points.
The Vikings will host the Lusk Tigers on Thursday. Games are set for 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
On Friday, Hanna-Elk Mountain will come to Guernsey for games at 2 and 3 p.m.
On Tuesday, February 5th, the Vikes will host Lingle-Fort Laramie. Games begin at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
