Hub City sponsors inaugural golf tournament to mark end of summer

Posted

GUERNSEY – The Hub City motorcycle club is sponsoring the End of Summer 9-hole golf tournament at Trail Ruts golf course in Guernsey. The tournament will be held Aug. 29 with the first group teeing off at 8 a.m.

The tournament is a random 3-person scramble and the buy in for each team member is $25 with sign-up at the golf course.

There will be a Calcutta at 8 p.m. Aug. 28 at Ben’s Bar in Guernsey. Ben’s Bar will also be providing the beer cart at the tournament.

“Alan Montgomery, one of the club members came up with this idea,” Frankie Adams, Hub City member said. “He’d been pushing for it for five years. Not this year, since it is the initial year, but hopefully we will most likely do like we do with our toy run and donate proceeds to the Lions Club toward Fredrick’s college scholarship funds.”

This first year is just a fun event according to Adams. They will see if there is participation interest and whether there can be enough interest to help raise money with this tournament. This tournament comes on the heels of two of the biggest days in the Guernsey economic calendar as there was the Frederick Memorial Golf Tournament held Aug. 14-16 and then the following week was Duck Daze Aug. 22.

The organizers from Hub City are hoping for 18 teams of three, but are not opposed to turning into a two-person event if the numbers are not solid.

The $25 entry fee includes the nine holes of golf. There are also prizes that will awarded on every hole of the tournament.

“We probably got $500 worth of prizes,” Adams said. “City Hall has donated two full rounds of golf with  a cart.”

Each hole has a special event to win a prize such as longest drive, closest to the pin, shortest made putt, longest putt and closest to the prize that is on the green.
