\GUERNSEY--With just three weeks left to prepare, work has begun in earnest to be ready for the annual Fourth of July celebration in Guernsey.
A planning meeting has been set for Wednesday, June 13 at 6 p.m. in the conference room at First State Bank for anyone willing to help with this year’s activities. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs. If you are interested in helping on the Fourth but unable to attend the meeting, please call Vicki at 836-2907 Sarah Cowan at 836-2689 or Kate Farmer at 836-2335.
In recognition off the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act, initially proposed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1965 and subsequently developed over the next few years, this year’s theme for the July Fourth celebration is “Happy Trails toYou”.
Parade entry forms will be out in the next few days and available at community businesses in the downtown area. Prizes will again be offered for the top three entries. Registrations for the parade must be in no later than Monday, July 2 by 5 p.m. They may be returned to Guernsey City Hall, the Guernsey Gazette office or Guernsey Economic and Tourism Development office, both at 40 S. Wyoming Ave. Any float or entry for the parade other than the antique or vintage vehicles, is required to egister--late entries will be placed at the end of the parade line-up. If you wish to enter an antique or vintage vehicle, please report to the north side of the school along Burlington and check in with parade officials for line-up information.
The July Fourth activities kick of on Saturday with a gun show on June 30 and July 1 at the VFW, sponsored by Tactical Able.
Activities on the Fourth include the free pancake breakfast in the park, folllowed by the parade, Wheels on the Trail Show and Shine for the antique and vintage vehicles participating in the parade, food and craft vendors in the park in the afternoon and a concert that evening by Harley and the V-Twins.
