Guernsey Trunk or Treat on Halloween

Posted

GUERNSEY – The annual Guernsey Treat Streets was held downtown Oct. 31 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Although the kids were still in school until 3:30, the first half-hour gave some of the preschoolers a chance to be the stars of the show on the streets of Guernsey. Trick or treaters had come from all over Platte County to enjoy the hospitality of local Guernsey businesses. The paths were filled with brightly decorated children and parental escorts, some of who also dressed up with their youngsters. Some of the places that the kids visited were Guernsey Super Foods to Register Cliff Pharmacy, Howshar Hardware, Able Tactical, Bunkhouse Motel, First State Bank, Sagebrush Motel, Banner Capital, Lockman’s Lunchbox, Kelley’s Bar, Ben’s Bar, the VFW, the Town of Guernsey, Tri-City Parks and Rec and Twisters.

The activities began in the VFW parking lot and wound around downtown. After the kids had their fill of trick or treating, they paraded down to Guernsey-Sunrise school where the west gym was fully decorated with spooky decorations and the kids had a chance to win games and prizes which were set up all around the gym.

In addition, Cheer coach Heather Walker was running the food buffet, cooking up hot dogs and monitoring the cotton candy machine which was busy all night long.

The event is sponsored by the Town of Guernsey, the Guernsey Economic & Tourism Development Corp. and Tri-City Parks and Rec.

In addition, the Guernsey Volunteer Fire Department hosted its annual Haunted House which was set up this year at the Fire Barn for those ready to be spooked. The haunted house was open Saturday through Monday and had tons of traffic. All proceeds from the haunt went to the Guernsey Volunteer Fire Department.

“Nobody had a heart attack,” said Shenna Thomas, wife of organizer and fire chief Jeff Thomas. “But one lady did wet herself. There are many more things going on in here this year and because we moved out of the city hall space, we had more room here at the fire barn. One of the scariest I think is when Jeff fires up his chainsaw with his spooky outfit on.”
