Guernsey track team performs well in Douglas Invitational

DOUGLAS – The Guernsey boys were only 24 points away from a fifth-place finish in the Douglas Invitational track meet held in Douglas on April 22. They also competed again on Saturday in Morrill and did very well.

One of the standouts for Guernsey last week was Justin Malcom who won the triple jump against a very large field of competitors. He won the high jump in Wheatland the week before. Malcom completed a jump of 38-04.00 to capture the day’s title.

Brian McCoid placed sixth in the triple jump with a 36-10.00

Brock Honholt also had a very nice outing as he finished very strong in the 200-meter field in Douglas and pre-qualified in the high jump in Morrill to compete with teammate Justin Malcom in the state meet.

Another bright spot in the Douglas Invitational was a second-place finish in the 1600 sprint medley for the team of Aiden Noggle, Kaleb Foggie, Dawson Bingham and Brian McCoid who finished in a time of 4:33.95.

“Josh Foggie made the finals as a freshman in both the 100 and 200 in Morrill,” said varsity head coach Doug Horton. “The four-by-eight relay team consisting of all freshmen ran their guts out taking second place at the Morrill meet with Aiden Noggle, Brody Harriman, Cooper Harriman and Dom Ramirez. Brian McCoid shaved five seconds off of his 300-hurdle time and placed in the triple jump both meets. We are hoping for some nice weather to train in, so we can peak at the right time. All of our athletes are working hard and giving great effort.”
