GUERNSEY—Guernsey-Sunrise Schools would like to honor their first two recipients of a new recognition for staff and students entitled “GEM”, the acronym for ‘Going the Extra Mile”.
Stacia Cook and Sarah VanNatter were selected for the first of what is to be a monthly recognition throughout the school year.
Awardees are chosen through a nomination and selection process by peers and administrators.
The school released the following statements about the pair.

STACIA COOK:
“Mrs. Cook leads by example and is always present for her students! Mrs. Cook’s love of learning is apparent in her classroom each and every day with her kindergarten students. She is always enthusiastic, patient, and well prepared for her classes. Mrs. Cook has established a learning environment in which failure is not an option, always providing the extra time needed for the success of her students. She is constantly GOING THE EXTRA MILE for her students!”
SARAH VANNATTER:
“Mrs. VanNatter can be counted on to jump in and do whatever is needed, often without being asked, to support students, staff, and community activities of Guernsey-Sunrise Schools. She devotes a tremendous amount of time; not only during the school day, but also before and after school to ensure her students are successful in their learning. She has a true passion for education and learning and is always willing to GO THE EXTRA MILE!”
