Guernsey farmers market has wide variety of wares

GUERNSEY – The 2021 Guernsey farmers market is halfway through the summer, enjoying large crowds and rave reviews from locals and tourists.

With additional vendors and a schedule that alternates the active booths from week to week, farmers market organizer Misty Thomas.

“It’s fantastic,” Thomas said. “We’ve had a great start to this year, we’ve had great crowds and a record number of vendors. They rotate every week. They don’t have to be here every week and that works out really well.”

This year the farmers market has 26 vendors who alternate weeks. The vendor list is also varied, having knitted hats, handmade tumblers, tortillas, jewelry, essential oils, soap, shaved ice, homemade honey, houseplants and so much more.

The time was switched to 5 p.m. on Thursdays so that people could stop by on their way home from work and didn’t go on weekends where most people were out of town.

Lakiesha Foggie who is in the military as a Master Sergeant at Camp Guernsey has a booth set up selling her knitting wares. Each vendor has an interesting story of how they got into the opportunity to run a booth showcasing their goods.

“I got into it because I had to support my yarn habit,” Foggie said with a serious grin. “My husband said, ‘ok, now how are you going to pay for all of this yarn?’ I saw the advertisement for the farmers market and a bell went off and knew I found a way to support my habit and my husband can’t fuss at me.”

The farmers market will run for the rest of this year until Sept. 30.
