WHEATLAND – The green jacket is usually reserved for the winner of The Masters golf tournament at Augusta National. Rules and tradition dictate that the jackets are kept at Augusta, and taking them off the premises is not allowed. The exception is for the winner, who can take it home and return it the following year.
This year at the Platte County Memorial Hospital and Legacy Home Foundation third annual Fairway to Health golf tournament held June 12, three green jackets were awarded to Jeremy Westerman, Steve Pollock and Mick Westerman who represented the team that won the 3-person scramble.
According to Bonnie Lockman, the tournament raised a little under $2100 which will go to the Educational Assistance Fund for staff already employed at the hospital or Legacy Home for continuing education. Other funds donated to the Legacy Home have been used to purchase an ice cream machine, sound system for activities, the kitchen for occupational therapy and other items to benefit the residents.
Funds donated for the hospital have gone to purchase the new I.V. pumps for the emergency room and ventilators for the ambulance.
Lockman said that they had a great turnout and for fun there was an opportunity of a $10,000 hole-in-one prize which nobody won, but “the fun was in the trying.”
