GUERNSEY--Duck Daze and the Beer Fest are just around the corner and final preparations are underway to put on one of Guernsey’s favorite celebrations.

The day kicks off with the Duck Dash at 8 a.m. at Heimbuck Park.  Registration begins at 7 the morning of the race.  Entry fee is $25.

Then get your tickets and head to the bridges--first to the west river bridge where the ducks will hit the water in the Platte River at 10:30 a.m. on their way to the payoff point at the south river bridge.  The first five ducks to reach the bridge will bring their owners cash prizes of $750 for first place, $500 for second place, $250 for third place, and $100 each for fourth and fifth place.

Once the winners are declared, the fun moves to Gordon Davis Park where vendors will be on hand to serve up some great lunch options.  The Farmer’s Market will set up from noon to 2 p.m. so be sure to check out the fresh and homemade items there.

The Salsa Contest will begin at 1 p.m.--make up your best entry and bring it to the park and see what the judges say!

Life-size Jenga and Checkers just for fun; sign up for the Cornhole and Horsehoe Tournaments ($20 entry--two-person teams) during the afternoon.

The Beer Fest is open to everyone 21 and older--$15 entry fee gets you a cup and five tokens; (additional tokens for $1 each) to sample over 30 different beers.  Don’t forget to bring your coupons for a token from your Quack Pack!

Quack Packs are on sale now but they’re going fast--don’t miss out--new and special ducks in the packs this year.  Packs may be purchased at Guernsey City Hall, Oregon Trail Bank, First State Bank, Register Cliff Pharmacy and Howshar Hardware.

The Guernsey Volunteer Fire Department is also having an evening of Vegas-style fun with their Casino Night from 6 to 10 p.m.  Entry fee of $25 gets you in where you’ll find plenty to do.  Texas Hold ‘Em, Black Jack, Roulette, and Craps for the gamblers!  This year’s theme is “The Old West”--dress the part and you might just win the prize for best male and best female costume!  An auction and the gun raffle will be held at the close of the evening.
