Duck Daze adds Bluegrass music to afternoon fare

And they're off! Ducks head for the water at the start of the 2018 Duck Daze Duck Race.

GUERNSEY—This year’s Duck Daze, set for Saturday, August 24th in Guernsey, takes on a bit of a different format. Last winter, the Guernsey Economic and Tourism Development Group was approached by members of the Platte County Memorial Hospital and Platte County Legacy Home Foundation Board, asking to join forces with them in bringing some bluegrass music to the area this summer.
As a result of that collaboration, an afternoon full of special events and activities has been planned and will be held at the Hub City Motorcycle Club grounds across from Trail Ruts Golf Course following the featured River Duck Race that .
The day will kick off at 8 a.m. with the traditional 5K Duck Dash. Drop-in registration begins at 7 a.m. at the corner of Heimbuck West Park on the west side of Guernsey. Run, waddle or walk—entry fees are $10; t-shirts can be ordered for $15 each.
Then it’s time to find out whose duck is fit and fast enough to swim its way from the west river bridge to the south river bridge. The first five to reach the south bridge will take home prizes of $750 for first; $500 for second; $250 for third and $100 each to fourth and fifth. (You do not have to be present to win.)
Quack Packs are available now in many Guernsey businesses that give you your five numbers that correspond to the ducks that will be dropped into the water at 10:30 a.m. sharp from the west river bridge. Each Quack Pack includes the five tickets, a commemorative rubber duck and a duck chip clip.
Beginning at 11 a.m., activities get underway just south of the river bridge at the Hub City Motorcyle Club grounds. The Guernsey Farmer’s Market will be set up at the parking lot near the east end of the Lucindy Rollins Walking Trail. A small admission fee (aduts-$5; 3-12-$2; under 3-free) gets you in the Hub City gates for a full afternoon of family fun, games and music. (Proceeds go to help fund the PCMH and PCLH Foundation.) Food vendors will be on site with lunch available along with a beer garden for those 21 and over. Music begins playing at noon and continues to 6 p.m., provided by Chug Creek Revival, The Renegades (Torrington) and Larry Phillips (Douglas). Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
A cornhole and horseshoe tournament will be held ($20 entry fee per two-person team) along with some additional games for kids and adults.
Set this very special day aside and plan to join the fun at this year’s Duck Daze in Guernsey.
