Doggers spoil Viking homecoming with 62-6 rout

GUERNSEY—The Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers played homecoming spoiler in a big way as they rolled to a 62-6 win over the Vikings last Friday in Viking Stadium.
The Doggers picked off a pass early in the first quarter and returned it for their first six points and never looked back, racking up 20 points before Guernsey was able to answer.
The Doggers scored on a 26 and 40-yard runs by Cooper Hill to take the score to 20-0. With 5:30 left in the first quarter, junior Justin Malcom broke free on a kickoff return and scrambled 70 yards to get the Vikings’ first and what was to be only score. The points after kick attempt by freshman Kolten Weinkauf was no good and the Vikings were down 20-6.
The Doggers added scores on runs by Ty Prall (2 yards), Cordell Forkner (4 yards) in the first quarter and snagged two more in the second (Alex Pugsley (36 yards) and Caeden Riley (13 yards) to take a commanding 56-6 lead at half.
They added just one more touchdown in the second half (Corey Ducheneaux, 10 yards) to cap off the win.

It was one of the Vikes least productive games as they managed just 118 yards of offense. They ran 49 plays and picked up 57 yards through the air and 61 yards on the ground. Eight turnovers were a big piece of the problem as the Doggers recovered all three Viking fumbles and picked off five passes they turned into points.
They were penalized four times for 25 yards and had the ball for 31:11 minutes. They picked up seven first downs and converted just one third down attempt.
Freshman quarterback Brian McCoid completed 9 of 33 passes for 57 yards and five interceptions. Junior back Justin Malcom carried 10 times for 91 yards and caught four passes for 28 yards. He returned one kickoff for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Senior Jeremy Hartt finished with one carry for six yards, a pair of catches for nine yards and a kickoff return for 16 yards. The Vikes lost 36 yards on their other five rushing attempts.
Sophomore receiver Preston Elmore had one catch for 11 yards and a kickoff return for seven yards. Sturdivant caught two passes for nine yards.
Elmore led the defensive work for the Vikings with eight unassisted tackles (one for lost yardage) and one assist. Hartt had four lone stops and an assist. Junior Preston Cook had three solo stops, one for lost yardage. McCoid and Malcom each had one lone stop and an assist.Weinkauf and freshman Chase Thompson each had an unassisted tackle. Weinkauf punted twice for 48 yards.
The Doggers finished with 363 yards of offense. They ran 38 plays, picking up 335 yards on the ground and 28 in the air. They were penalized four times for 15 yards and committed four turnovers, all fumbles. They had the ball for 15:10. They picked up 14 first downs and converted one of six third down conversions.
The Vikings will close their season Friday in Guernsey when they host Hanna-Elk Mountain. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. They hold a 2-5 overall record and a 2-4 conference mark.
