Cruise and moo and much to do

Platte County has it all. Sometimes it’s overwhelming at times. Decisions, decisions, decisions… what to attend, who to “pop in on,” and what to prioritize.

Between the Blue Mountain Car show with “Luke Duke” (Tom Wopat) from the television show, The Dukes of Hazzard, showing off “Flash” the basset hound and of course The famous 1969 Dodge Charger aptly named The General Lee, to homemade rafts for the Madison Memorial Float down the Platte River to a statewide cutting competition at Rafter MB Quarter Horses Arena and Event Center.

Just to name a few activities that Platte County featured.

For a small area it is a constant flurry of activity and there is no time off to breath. Compared to some of the bigger metropolitan areas, acre for acre, PC has an incredible bang for the buck.

Activities are not limited to a car show now and then or a baseball game.

In the last year, out of the ordinary activities like chariot racing in Glendo, Glendo Days featuring the tiniest pallet bar in the county, fireworks in your neighbor’s backyard, a chili cook-off and rodeo in Chugwater, a cruise night in Wheatland with celebrity cruisers, cutting championships, a homemade raft competition, inaugural 5Ks and boating races on Glendo Lake.

If there are couch potatoes in the county, it’s most likely someone is sick.

Last year as the world was coming out of one of the darkest pandemics in over one hundred years and the people of Platte County were experiencing cabin fever on a deeper level due to COVID and not being able to be active ALL THE TIME, it’s as if people have a sense of greater awareness of all the things offered in this area.

When the night becomes darkest, the dawn is at the ready to bring light. Platte County has brought the light this year and it’s just begun. The Platte County Fair is just around the corner and nobody is going to get any sleep.

Oh, to live in such a lively and happening place. The word “Boredom” was taken out of the Platte County dictionary and next generation is being raised with their hands always busy. It makes for not only an enjoyable home, a progressive community but also a generation of “doers.”
