Changes coming to this year’s Winter’s Eve fare

GUERNSEY—The community’s Winter’s Eve Festival celebration will have a new format this year in the hopes that it will make it a bit easier for residents to attend more of the events.

A committee made up of people from the Economic Development Group, Tri-City Parks and Recreation, the Town of Guernsey and Guernsey-Sunrise Schools have been working for several months to organize and plan for this year’s events, scheduled for Wednesday, December 5th.

This year’s Winter’s Eve Festival theme is “All I Want for Christmas” and parade entries should reflect that theme.  Registration forms will be available this Wednesday at Guernsey City Hall, First State Bank, Oregon Trail Bank, and Register Cliff Pharmacy.  Parade registrations will be due by Monday, Decemer 3rd at 5 p.m. and should be returned to Guernsey City Hall.  Full instructions and information may be found on the registration form.

Local businesses have been invited to hold day-long events during their regular business hours on December 5th.

Winter’s Eve will feature a number of events with the majority of them to be held at Guernsey-Sunrise Schools.  The following event schedule has been set for the evening.

The Parade of Trees will be held in the East Gym from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

A Chili Dinner will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose room.

Cookie Decorating will be held in the Family and Consumer Science kitchen in the high school from 5 to 7 p.m.

Storytime with Sally will be held in the elementary library at 7 p.m.

Performances at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the East Gym will be given by the G-S High School Band and Choir Ensembles.

First State Bank will screen a special Christmas movie at 5:45 and 6:45 p.m. in the Family and Consumer Science classroom.  Popcorn will be provided.

Several changes have been made with regard to this year’s parade.  The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and the parade route will run from the NORTH end of Wyoming Ave. south to the high school.

Oregon Trail Bank will host their annual Open House from 6 to 8 p.m.  They will provide a photo op with Santa throughout the evening

Caroling will be held at the Guernsey Senior Center.
