WHEATLAND – BNSF which is usually seen hauling freight or coal through Platte County sported a different look May 11 as a BNSF locomotive was pulling a string of what looked like vintage passenger rail cars. After contacting BNSF’s media department, the trains were not ticketed for passengers, but employees.
“The cars you observed are our private business car fleet,” Lena Kent, BNSF media representative said. “We use them for various business purposes around our 28 state network.”
Each car had a different name such as the Carl Rice Car, the Valley View, the Lake Superior dining car, the William B. Strong, the Cajon Pass, and the Mt. Ranier. Speculation was that BNSF CEO Katie Farmer was on board and corporate employees were observing the rail line. That could not be confirmed by BNSF.
