GUERNSEY--They’re called creature comforts--the little things that make day-to-day life just a little more tolerable. Seemingly insignificant, things like bubble gum, batteries, disposable eye glass wipes, chapstick, a current magazine--they are easily taken for granted because we can have them any time we want or need them. But for some of our soldiers stationed around the globe, those simple items are a luxury--not easily accessed and definitely missed.
With that in mind, the Guernsey-Sunrise Booster Club is sponsoring a “Red, White and Blue” night this coming Friday during the high school basketball games. A local soldier and Guernsey-Sunrise graduate, David Bye, is currently deployed overseas and the Booster Club would like to show support for Dave and his unit by sending them “care packages” containing some of those cherished items.
They are asking that members of the community bring their items to the commons area near the gym and basketball games bring along donations of items they will collect and forward to Dave’s unit.
Some suggested items include:
Wet Wipes (for hands and eyeglasses)
New Release DVDs
Small Soap Bars
Personal Care Items (toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, foot care items, etc.)
Gum & Candy (sugarless & regular)
In addition to bringing items for the soldiers, the Booster Club is also encouraging everyone to wear red, white and blue to show their support for our troops.
They may be small items but your donations will brighten a soldier’s day and perhaps bring a touch of home to those who continue to sacrifice on our behalf.
